Handing over ceremony towards victims

On the 15th October 2022, Okavango Human Wildlife Conflict Foundation in conjunction with Botswana Golf Union hosted a Charity Golf Tournament in Kasane at Cresta Mowana Golf course. The main objective of the charity tournament was to raise funds to help support people with permanent injuries due to Human-Wildlife Conflict.
Post the event, the organization held a Handover Ceremony on the 15th November 2022 (yesterday) at Maun Lodge and the handover was presented by Prof J. Mbaiwa (Director of Okavango Research Institute, UB)

Mr L. Likokoto from Kasane had pledged at the Charity Golf Tournament two Twin Turbo washing machines to OHWCF. Prior to the handing over ceremony, he again transported the machines from Gaborone to Maun at his own costs readying them for handing over. The machines were yesterday handed over to Ms Nkoketsang Monnawatsheko, Ms Cecelia Monnawatsheko and Mrs Buchilani Masole respectively.

With regard to the victims, Ms Nkoketsang Monnawatsheko was attacked by a crocodile at Thamalakane river on the 29th November 2020 while harvesting water lily (tswii) and fish. She was attacked on the left arm, on the shoulder and her arm was amputated completely. Ms Cecelia Monnawatsheko was also attacked with her mother Ms Nkoketsang Monnawatsheko. The victim was amputated below the elbow. Mrs Buchilani Masole on the 12th April 2016 was attacked by an elephant while on duty at Kwando Safari Camp at the Delta. The elephant charged to the victim and she sustained a dislocated collar bone on the right arm leading to her shoulder being disfuntional.
In both cases of the victims, performing day to day functions was never an easy task after their sad ordeals. With the donations made, a very real difference in their lives was made and we believe that it will go a long way in easing their laundry functions.

To Mr L. Likokoto, thank you for your great generosity. We at OHWCF greatly appreciate your donation and sacrifice. We are thrilled to have your support. With deepest gratitude and warmest wishes, thank you once again.

To everyone who graced the ceremony, we sincerely appreciate your presence at this special event yesterday. We are so delighted to be associated with people like you and we look forward to more fruitful engagements with you in the future

Hippos are bad-tempered and that’s even before they opened their mouths. Their teeth are sharp dangerous for a human body. For Shirley she got lucky when in May this year she was attacked by Hippo while going to attend a burial early in morning. The hippo attacked her, tried to crush her hand with it’s sharp incisors. Fortunately the hand passed the teeth to gums in the hippos mouth. She still however sustained injuries. Access the link below to watch the video.
