The BNF is a progressive popular democratic movement that embraces within itself diverse political and ideological tendencies whose unifying platform is the social democratic programme. To guarantee its mass character, the BNF allows progressive mass organisations such as working class organisations, trade unions, educational clubs, women’s groups, peasants associations, student movement or progressive parties to join or affiliate to it as group members.

We realise that our country, the Republic of Botswana is facing acute social, economic and political problems, and realising the need to mobilise all patriotic and democratic forces for solving these problems. We realise that the social and economic life of our country is dominated by International Capitalism, widespread adverse influence of remnants of feudalism and resultant conditions of illiteracy, unemployment, poverty and other vices;

The world is witnessing an upsurge of struggles waged by patriotic and democratic forces against all forms of exploitation; and we appreciate, the urgent need to unite all the patriotic individuals and groups into a united front with the aim of realising the objectives of establishing a democratic state guided by the principles of a social democratic programme.

Now therefore a political organisation, known as the Botswana National Front, is founded to articulate the interests of all patriotic and democratic forces against the aforementioned, and declares its basic aims and objectives to be the following:
